INTERN COUNSELLOR IN MAPLE RIDGE

Hi, I´m Jasmine McMillen

I SUPPORT INDIVIDUALS NAVIGATING TRAUMA, LIFE TRANSITIONS, AND EMOTIONAL CHALLENGES WITH COMPASSION AND CURIOSITY.

As an intern counsellor in Maple Ridge, BC, I am a Master of Social Work (MSW) student completing my practicum placement at Ignite Counselling, where I support individuals navigating trauma, life transitions, grief, and emotional challenges.

In addition to my studies and placement at Ignite Counselling, I am employed as a mental health worker within a men’s federal correctional facility. Through this work, I have developed a strong ability to build rapport in challenging environments and to meet people with empathy, respect, and curiosity about their lived experiences.

My work has also deepened my understanding of the unique barriers many male-identifying individuals face when accessing mental health support. I have seen how stigma, socialization, and expectations around masculinity can make emotional expression and help-seeking difficult. Because of this, I am particularly passionate about creating a therapeutic space that feels safe, respectful, and accessible for everyone – including those who may feel unsure about therapy or are seeking support for the first time.

Using a client-centered, trauma informed, and strengths-based approach, I am especially interested in how past experiences, relationships, and life transitions shape the way people understand themselves and navigate the world. I aim to offer a supportive and non-judgmental space where clients can explore their experiences, develop greater self-awareness, and practice tools that help them move towards meaningful change. Whether you are navigating a specific challenge, carrying the weight of past experiences, or simply looking for a supportive space to reflect and grow, I look forward to supporting you as you move toward greater understanding and meaningful change.

My Passion for Trauma Informed Care...

My passion for this work grew through my experience in a federal correctional facility, an environment where vulnerability is rarely welcomed and help-seeking carries real social risk. Working alongside men navigating trauma, loss, and complex life circumstances taught me that the need for connection and healing is universal, even when the path to it is blocked by stigma or circumstance.

Becoming a new mom has further deepened my empathy for life’s most overwhelming transitions. I know firsthand how much patience and self-compassion it takes to navigate change and I bring that understanding into my work with every client. As an intern counsellor in Maple Ridge, I’m here to meet you where you are.
