AFFORDABLE COUNSELLING IN BC | INTERN COUNSELLING
Where Support Feels Possible
Getting support shouldn’t feel out of reach. We know therapy can be hard to afford, especially if you don’t have extended health benefits or a flexible budget. At Ignite Counselling & Consulting, we believe everyone deserves access to compassionate mental health care without added stress about cost.
That’s why we offer intern counselling, a more affordable counselling in BC option that is still thoughtful, ethical, and well-supported.
What is Intern Counselling?
Intern counselling is therapy provided by counselling or social work interns who are in the final stage of their graduate training. Our interns have completed advanced coursework and have already gained hands-on clinical experience through multiple supervised placements.
What makes this stage unique is the setting. Our trained intern counsellors practice within our clinic and receive close, ongoing supervision from experienced clinicians, along with formal oversight from their academic programs. Supervision is provided by Shawna Leighton, registered with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC), ensuring your care meets the highest professional standards. They are committed, skilled clinicians with a strong dedication to ethical, client-centred care.
Your intern meets regularly with a registered therapist to review sessions, explore clinical insights, and plan next steps. This means your care is gently held by two professionals working together: your intern, and a senior clinician supporting them behind the scenes.
Intern Counselling Fees
$60 per 50-minute session
Low cost therapy does not mean lower-quality care. It means care designed to meet you where you are. For those seeking low income counselling or simply a more budget-friendly path to support, this is a meaningful option that doesn’t compromise on the quality of your experience.
What This Means For You
With intern counselling, you receive:
- The dedicated care and attention of your counsellor
- The guidance and experience of a seasoned, registered clinician
- Counselling at a rate that doesn’t add to your stress
Many clients appreciate that our interns bring fresh perspectives, current training, and deep care for their work, paired with strong supervision to ensure your support remains grounded, intentional, and safe.
Why We Offer Intern Counselling
At Ignite, we care deeply about people, both those seeking support and those learning how to provide it. We believe counselling should be available to anyone who needs it, and that quality of care should never depend on the size of your budget.
Intern counselling allows us to:
- Make therapy more accessible for individuals, couples, and families
- Offer care that is collaborative and well-supported
- Reduce financial stress while maintaining high standards of care
- Support counselling students through strong mentorship and supervision
We don’t see learning as a downside. We see it as part of a caring, connected system that strengthens everyone involved.
Is Intern Counselling Right For You?
Intern counselling may be a good fit if you:
- Are seeking low income counselling without compromising on quality
- Value care that is thoughtful, supervised, and collaborative
- Appreciate a warm, human approach to therapy
- Are navigating stress, anxiety, life transitions, grief, or relationship challenges
Choosing this option isn’t about receiving less. It’s about choosing care that is intentional, supported, and kind to your budget.
