INTERN COUNSELLING

Where Support Feels Possible

Getting support shouldn’t feel out of reach. We know therapy can be hard to afford, especially if you don’t have extended health benefits or a flexible budget. At Ignite Counselling & Consulting, we believe everyone deserves access to clinically grounded, compassionate mental health care, without added stress about cost.

That’s why we offer intern counselling, a more accessible therapy option that is still thoughtful, ethical, and well-supported.

What is Intern Counselling?

Intern counselling is therapy provided by counselling or social work interns who are in the final stage of their graduate training. Our interns have completed advanced coursework and have already gained hands-on clinical experience through multiple supervised placements.

What makes this stage unique is the setting. Interns practice within our counselling clinic and receive close, ongoing supervision from experienced Ignite clinicians, along with formal oversight from their academic programs.

They are well-trained clinicians with a strong commitment to ethical, client-centred care.

Your intern meets regularly with a registered therapist to review sessions, explore clinical insights, and plan next steps. This means your care is gently held by two professionals working together, your intern, and a senior clinician supporting them behind the scenes.

Intern Counselling Fees

$60 per 50-minute session

Low-cost therapy does not mean lower-quality care. It means care designed to meet you where you are.

What This Means For You

With intern counselling, you receive:

  • The dedicated care and attention of your intern therapist
  • The guidance and experience of a seasoned, registered clinician
  • Therapy at a more accessible rate

Many clients appreciate that interns bring fresh perspectives, current training, and deep care for their work, paired with strong supervision to ensure your support remains grounded, intentional, and safe.

Why We Offer Intern Counselling

At Ignite, we care deeply about people, both those seeking support and those learning how to provide it.

Intern counselling allows us to:

  • Make therapy more accessible for individuals, couples, and families
  • Offer care that is collaborative and well-supported
  • Reduce financial stress while maintaining high standards of care
  • Support new clinicians through strong mentorship and supervision

We don’t see learning as a downside. We see it as part of a caring, connected system that strengthens everyone involved.

Is Intern Counselling Right For You?

Intern counselling may be a good fit if you:

  • Are looking for affordable therapy or low-cost counselling
  • Value care that is thoughtful, supervised, and collaborative
  • Appreciate a warm, human approach to therapy
  • Are navigating stress, anxiety, life transitions, grief, or relationship challenges

Choosing intern counselling isn’t about receiving less. It’s about choosing care that is intentional, supported, and kind to your budget.

Care That Meets You With Respect

When individuals are supported, communities are better equipped to thrive.

Intern counselling is one of the ways we live these values, by offering care that feels safe, respectful, and accessible. If this feels like the right fit, we would be honoured to support you.

At Ignite Counselling & Consulting, we believe care should feel safe, respectful, and accessible. These values guide how we show up for every client.

Welcoming, Human Support

Therapy should feel warm, relational, and grounded in real human connection.

Affordability Without Judgement

Choosing a more affordable therapy option should never come with shame or assumptions.

Strong Support Behind The Scenes

Thoughtful supervision and collaboration strengthen the care you receive.

Pink Shirt Day: Wearing More Than a Colour

Pink Shirt Day isn’t really about shirts at all. It’s about a moment in history that became a movement, and a colour that turned into a collective promise. Every year, on the last Wednesday of February, Pink Shirt Day is observed across Canada. In 2026, Pink Shirt Day...
