MENTAL HEALTH SPECIALIST

Hi, I´m Helen Yu

I SUPPORT PARENTS AND FAMILIES THROUGH LIFE’S TRANSITIONS WITH WARMTH AND UNDERSTANDING.

I am a registered social worker and mental health practitioner with over five years of professional experience supporting individuals, youth, parents, and families through emotional challenges, life transitions, and evolving mental health needs. I work collaboratively with clients who are seeking support for anxiety, depression, stress, identity exploration, trauma, relationship dynamics, and the overall impact of navigating an increasingly complex world.

I have a special clinical interest in perinatal and postpartum mental health, with a focus on supporting new and expecting parents as they adjust to the psychological, emotional, and social shifts that accompany parenthood. This includes challenges such as perinatal mood changes, postpartum anxiety, depression, intrusive thoughts, birth trauma, attachment concerns, and the often-unspoken emotional experiences of early parenting. I am passionate about helping parents feel supported, resourced, and understood during a stage of life that can feel overwhelming, isolating, and full of uncertainty.

I aim to create a therapeutic space that feels safe, grounding, and empowering one where clients can process their experiences openly, develop practical coping tools, strengthen self-awareness, and build emotional resilience. My approach is compassionate, client-centered, and strengths-based. I believe that meaningful mental health support should help you feel seen, supported, and equipped to move through life with more stability and confidence.

I also recognize that mental health is deeply shaped by our relationships, identities, community, and systems around us. In our work together, you can expect a non-judgmental environment that honours your unique experiences, supports your goals, and evolves alongside your needs.

Whether you are navigating a specific challenge, adjusting to a major life shift, or wanting proactive support for your well-being, my goal is to walk alongside you as you build a stronger foundation for your mental health, one step at a time.

My Passion for Perinatal...

My passion for perinatal work was jump started after I became a mother. Although I have worked with children and families for years prior, going through pregnancy and postpartum was such a transformative experience that I was not prepared for, no matter how hard I tried. During the early months of maternity leave, I truly realized the importance of having a village, whether that is from extended family and friends or through community resources. I found myself searching high and low for the right postpartum support and thought – it shouldn’t be this hard. As new parents, we’re thrown into new territory so abruptly with no instruction manual on how to navigate all new experiences, both good and bad. I am happy to walk alongside your journey of parenthood and discover your unique strengths.

Here are a few fun facts about me…

My favourite self care activity…

I love to sit at a local cafe and take my time to enjoy a good cup of coffee. Bonus points for breezy autumn mornings.

What I am proud of this year…

Facing my fears of doing an international trip with a toddler. Exhausting but well worth it – conquered seven flights and jet lag!

My favourite thing to do is…

Spending quality time with friends and family. Usually this involves good food, too!

Something I want to do…

I want to learn how to do more DIY things, from children’s crafts to reviving distressed house plants.
